What is a Funding Rate?
Perpetual futures don't have an expiry date. To keep their price anchored to the spot price, exchanges use a funding rate mechanism: periodic payments exchanged between long and short holders.
When funding is positive, longs pay shorts — meaning the market is bullish and perpetuals are trading above spot. When funding is negative, shorts pay longs — the market is bearish.
Binance and Bybit reset funding every 8 hours (00:00, 08:00, 16:00 UTC). OKX and some others may use different intervals. The annual cost of a position at 0.01% funding rate per 8h is approximately 10.95% per year.
Why Does Funding Rate Matter?
Funding rates are fetched in real-time from exchange APIs. Rates change every 8 hours. For informational purposes only. Not investment advice. All trading involves significant risk.
