What is the Long/Short Ratio?

The long/short ratio measures the proportion of traders holding long (buy) versus short (sell) positions on a perpetual futures contract. A ratio above 1.0 means more traders are long; below 1.0 means more are short.

Binance publishes three variants:

All AccountsThe broadest view — all Binance futures accounts with open positions
Top Trader AccountsLong/short ratio of the top 20% of accounts by position value
Top Trader PositionsNet long vs net short position sizes of the same top traders

How to Read the Taker Buy/Sell Ratio

The taker buy/sell ratio measures the volume of buy market orders versus sell market orders. Takers are traders who fill existing orders — high taker buy volume means aggressive buying pressure from market orders.

Unlike position ratios, the taker ratio reflects short-term momentum. A surge in taker buy volume often precedes price increases, while sustained taker sell volume signals distribution or panic selling.
