What is the Kimchi Premium?
The Kimchi Premium (김치프리미엄) is the percentage difference between cryptocurrency prices on South Korean exchanges and international exchanges like Binance.
When the premium is positive, Korean prices are higher than global prices — historically driven by high local demand, capital controls, and limited arbitrage channels. When negative (reverse premium), Korean prices are below global prices, which can indicate local selling pressure or market pessimism.
